Ahhhhhhhh, the Grouse Grind……… Vancouver’s stairmaster!
For those of you who don’t know, the Grouse Grind is a 2.9km (1.8) mile “hike”. I know, that seems like nothing, right? A walk in the park.
Oh, there’s a 2800 foot (853m) elevation gain.
2800 feet over 2.9km? Now that’s some scary sh!t!
So my wife and I hauled our asses out of bed at 5:00 in the morning, in order to be at the base of the mountain for 6:30. Anything later than that is stupidly busy. We were joined by her parents, who were equally keen for the morning cardio punishment.
I’m not nervous at all to start………. Honest…………
Times? My wife set a personal best time of just over 53 minutes, and I was a hair over an hour. I’ll beat the hour next time, damnit! But OH MY EFFING GOD I thought I was going to die.
Here's the whole crew. Time to kind of celebrate! (And get away from the bugs)
Definitely some nice views of the city from the top! (This means more selfies, obviously)
The highlight? Completing the damn thing!
The lowlight? Being (quickly) passed by a middle aged topless dude, with a manbun. Oh well. All the more reason for me to chuckle at these poor fools just finishing the Grind! (Ehhhh, I'm kidding of course. I respect the hell out of anybody and everybody who completes this)
Oh.......... The two lumps way off in the distance? Those are The Lions - also on my summer 2015 hiking list!
